Does minoxidil regrow receding hairlines and is the results are temporary ?

hello !! i am 17 years old boy and because of using harsh chemicals on my hair i have lost my frontal hair and my hair became thin.. now i wanna regrow my hair but i am afraid of side effects and temporary results.. is their ny other treatment that works as my problem is not hereditary and i am very young now.. please help...!!
