Stroke survival rates for moderate stroke with brain occlusion?

My mother in law just suffered a sub cortical frontal lobe moderate stroke . I cannot find enough info regarding recurrent stroke, long term survival etc She has a son who lives cross country and was planning to move back in 4-5 months after he is laid off from his job . He is willing to relocate sooner - at great cost ( no layoff no unemployment , with a baby coming) if his time with his mother is seriously limited. Anyone have answers? estimates?
